Nancy's uncanny music identification skills.

My sister-in-law never ceased to amaze me by her ability to not only recognize a piece of classical music, but to know which orchestra was playing and who was conducting! I kid you not!!! Many times during Nancy's illness while still living at home with my brother Don, I would pick her up to go on outings and I always made sure to have my radio set to the local classical music station, King FM. During our many commutes, Nancy might say to me, "That's Mozart's Flute Concerto in D Major"; or "That's Gustavo Dudamel, an excellent conductor and violinist!" Sometimes Nancy would express doubts in her identification skills and I would tell her, "Nancy, if YOU say it's Gustavo Dudamel, it is - of that I am sure!" Later, after Nancy moved into senior housing in Bellevue, you could find her watching the Arts Channel on television. Out of the blue, when you least expected it, Nancy would excitedly say, "Yo Yo Ma is here!" (And he was.) or "That's Die Walkure from the 1st Cycle of Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle!" WOW! How did she do that?!!!! One thing I know for sure - that which seems to resonate most with someone will remain with them for many years to come. I have no doubt that Nancy is now enjoying some great music where she's been released to. And her excellent flute playing probably rings out above every other instrument!!!
